WPIAL HS Football Predictions: PIAA Championships

Each week from the start of the WPIAL season through the PIAA State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation brings you the best, uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”.

He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action of WPIAL High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Love him, or hate him, he simply tells it like it is... Or is it she? Either way, we'll never tell! (Unless you have a crisp $100 bill in hand)

By P To The Power of 2

The most difficult part of the season is upon us, the final show, the tip of the cap, the curtain call… This weekend we conclude the 2019 season from Hershey Park Stadium as we will crown 6 PIAA Champions…

The heat of summer and the cool winds of autumn have now given way to the cold bite of early winter. For the 12 teams remaining, they’ve survived the elements, the injuries, the nail-biting victories to all end up here, the State Championship!

Last week, we posted a record of 11-1! Thus raising our postseason total to 65 victories and
18 defeats (79.79%)

This vaults our 2019 season total to 154 victories and 39 defeats (78.31%)

In 2018, we had a clean sweep of the PIAA Finals. We’ll give it our best shot to repeat! For the final time this year….Let’s get to work!

AAAAAA: St Joseph Prep Hawks (11-2) vs Central Dauphin Rams (12-2)

Saturday, 6:00pm
Central Dauphin will lean on QB Max Mosey who has tossed the ball for 1,979 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Rams RB Timmy Smith has 16 touchdowns and 1,257 yards rushing. WR Nick Chimienti has 1,070 yards receiving with 9 touchdowns. Last week, the Rams put up a gusty effort to upend Downingtown West, 65-44.

St Joseph Prep will enter their 6th trip in the past 7 seasons to the PIAA championship. The Hawks last week won in an overtime thriller over Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 31-24. Hawks QB Kyle McCord has thrown for 2,399 yards this season with 31 touchdowns. WR Marvin Harrison JR has 987 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns. RB Kolbe Burrell has rushed for 1,137 yards and has 14 touchdowns.

Real question is will Kyle McCord and Jeremiah Trotter Jr play in this contest for the Hawks?

AAAAA: Cheltenham Panthers (14-1) vs Archbishop Wood Vikings (10-3)

Friday, 7:00pm

The Panthers will look to QB Adonis Hunter on Friday. Hunter has thrown for 2,129 yards and has 26 touchdowns. RB Jamir Barnes has rushed for 1,235 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Panthers WR thread of TJ Harris will loom large as he has 714 receiving yards with 10 touchdowns.

Archbishop Wood counters with their QB in Max Keller. Keller has thrown for 1,237 yards and has 17 touchdowns. RB duo of Cardel Pigford and Kaelin Costello has combined for nearly 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Keep an eye on the stingy defense of the Panthers in this one. As Seaman Beaumon said at the end of Red October….”This ones gonna be close”

AAAA: Dallas Mountaineers (15-0) vs Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (15-0)

Thursday, 7:00pm

The Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson return to Hershey Park for the first time since 2008. Last week, the Jaguars pounded Lampeter Strausburg, 44-2. QB Shane Stump has thrown for 2,370 yards this season with 32 touchdowns and only 1 interception, impressive indeed. RB Dylan Mallozzi has 1,705 yards rushing with 25 touchdowns. WR Dan Deabner has 47 receptions for 1,053 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Jaguars have outscored their opponents 693-62 this season.

Dallas defeated Jersey Shore last week, 56-28. The Mountaineers QB Michael Starbuck has thrown for 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. Dallas RB Lenny Kelley has amassed an incredible 2,698 yards on the ground and has 41 touchdowns. Dallas is averaging 43.9 points per game and only giving up an average of 12.

An undefeated showdown for opening night in Hershey should be a dandy… Defense wins championships and we feel that Thomas Jefferson has the better defense
