Mad Mike's Musings

By Mike Drakulich, Pittsburgh SportsNation

Isn't annoying having to drag an honest opinion out of someone these days? Are you tired of all the corporate, politically correct garbage spewed by the media? Do you want to punch someone for saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas? If you said 'Yes' to any or all of these questions, you're in the right place! Prepare yourself for Mad Mike's Musings!

"Mad Mike" you say? You mad bro? Yes, in fact, I am, especially after living in Pittsburgh the past 5 years after growing up in mellow Midland, Pennsylvania my whole life. Mainly it's the drivers in this area that drive (pun intended) me to madness.

As a Steelers fan, I despise the Baltimore Ravens, and in the NFL, there isn't a better rivalry in the NFL. But when it comes down to hating the Ravens or the Philadelphia Flyers more, the Flyers win hands-down. At most, the Steelers and Ravens can face each other up to three times in one season. The Pens and Flyers play six times in the regular season, and now can play each other up to SEVEN times in the next two weeks. Can you imagine the Steelers playing the Ravens in a 7 game series?

Think NBC Sports NHL analyst Mike Milbury still holds a grudge from the beatings the Penguins handed his team back in 1991 and 1992?

*

Funny New York Rangers Head Coach John Tortorella forgot about Mike Rupp's knee on knee hit that put Jordan Staal out back on January 6. Sometimes injuries just happen.

*

I often wonder if CBC blowhard Don Cherry takes a hit of acid before going live on TV. No one can be that stupid when talking about Sidney Crosby. Oh, wait, so did Mike Milbury, John Tortorella, and Flyers assistant coach Craig Berube. Someone should tell these knuckleheads to stop poking the bear. Thanks to them, I see Crosby going on a tear starting Wednesday in Game One. Sid is a scary player on his own. He's freaking Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees combined when really motivated.

Ever notice how when you were 6 years old, you didn't give a damn what color the kid next to you was in the playground? It's old people and the media that keeps fanning the flames of racism in this world. I'm from Midland, Pa.. I could care less on what religion you practice or nationality you were born into. It's how you treat me personally on how much respect I give you.

I picked the Pens to win in 6 over Philly, but the more I think about it, I wouldn't be surprised to see it be 5. The Pens were pretty good last season without Crosby and Malkin, not to mention a suspended Matt Cooke and a struggling James Neal. This team is built to win it all. If they are focused, as they should be opening at home, it should be a 2-0 series lead late Friday night for Pittsburgh.

Message to Pens fans. Consol better be rocking at around 7pm Wednesday night. Fans do make a difference. I remember how insane it was before Game One vs Ottawa in 2008. The players even mention how fired up they were in the locker room before the game hearing the crowd chant, "LETS GO PENS!"

If you've never watched Justified on FX, I highly suggest you check it out. It is one of the best shows on TV.

Wasn't it a sweet feeling as a Pirate fan after whacking the Phillies two out of three over the weekend? Pitching was fantastic for the Buccos and as for the bats, well, they were facing the best pitching staff in the majors. Last summer was a lot of fun as a Bucco fan. I look forward to that continuing this summer as well.

Gotta love how the U.S. has satellites that can read a newspaper you're reading while standing on Grant Street, but they can't find this moron who keeps making bomb threats over at Pitt.

Seeing Geno Malkin being the only player to record over 100 points this season should make you appreciate even more how special Mario Lemieux was.
