2012 All Ex-Pirates Team

By Mike Drakulich, Pittsburgh SportsNation

When it comes to the last 20 seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates, nothing should ever surprise you when it comes to bad luck following a once proud franchise that boasts 5 World Championships, but when you really take a look at some of the 2012 stats of ex-Pirates that basically couldn't hit a beach ball with the Pirates as hitters, or find the win column as a pitcher, sometimes you just gotta shake your head in disbelief.

Other than Ryan Doumit, Aramis Ramirez, and Freddy Sanchez, the rest of this team did basically squat during their tenure as Buccos.

Over and over the past decade, regardless of who owns the team, I've heard that the Pirates Minor League system and the coaches that are doing the instructing, are the most inept in all of baseball.

Let's take a look at every position that ex-Buccos used to occupy.

C- Ryan Doumit, Minnesota, .275, 18 HR's, 75 RBI

1B- Adam LaRoche, Washington, .271, 33 HR's, 100 RBI

2B- Freddy Sanchez, San Francisco, DL for 2012

SS- Pedro Ciriaco, Boston, .293, 2 HR's, 19 RBI, 16 SB's (76 Games)

3B- Aramis Ramirez- Milwaukee, .300, 27 HR's, 105 RBI

LF- Ryan Ludwick, Cincinnati, .275, 26 HR's, 80 RBI

CF- Nate McClouth, Baltimore, .268, 7 HR's, 18 RBI, 12 SB's (55 Games w/Baltimore)

RF- Brandon Moss, Oakland, .291, 21 HR, 52 RBI

P-  Bronson Arroyo, Cincinnati, 12-10, 3.74 ERA , 129 K's

P- Ryan Vogelsong, San Francisco, 14-9, 3.37 ERA, 158 K's

P- Paul Maholm, Atlanta, 13-11, 3.67 ERA, 140 K's

Other than Andrew McCutchen in CF, Garrett Jones in RF, Neil Walker at 2B, and Pedro Alvarez at 3B, there's no one at the remaining positions that you would't want over the current Pirate there right now.

You just have to wonder what the Pirates didn't see in Pedro Ciriaco, who was only 26, over an aging Clint Barmes, other than manager Clint Hurdle was buddies with Barmes.

Dare I mention the name Jose Bautista?

Will the misery ever end for the Pittsburgh Pirates?
