W.P.I.A.L. High School Football Forecast: Week 8

Each week, Pittsburgh SportsNation will bring you uncensored, no holds barred predictions by a guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”. He is one of our underground writers who covers WPIAL High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Or is it she? Either way, we'll never tell!

Quad A who? That's right, Class 'AAA' Parkway conference has officially flexed their muscles this season, proving why the Parkway is one of thee most vying conferences in the nation. West Allegheny played hit-for-hit, play-for-play and stride-for-stride with Woodland Hills last Friday night. A game that was stocked with huge plays and future D1 players ended as an overtime victory 42-41 by West Allegheny. This game has officially ranked into my All-Time Top High School games at #4. That #1 spot still controlled by the 1992 Thomas Jefferson / Blackhawk contest.

Meanwhile, as I still continue to talk about these games, there is another week of action. Week # 8! Conference champions could be crowned Friday night and playoff spots can be obtained.  Last week, my 2 week 20-0 winning streak was snapped, I finished week 7 at 9-1, thus continuing to raise my season total faster than the number of arrests outside of Double J Bar on Tuesday in Rochester.

56 Wins and 14 Defeats, totaling out to 80%!

Let's get to work!

CLASS 'AAA'

Thomas Jefferson (7-0) vs Franklin Regional (5-2) Friday night in Murrysville. Cake anyone? Franklin Regional WB Santino Birty and TB Brett Zanotto have amassed 1,400 yards thru 8 weeks. Last week, Franklin defeated Greensburg Salem, 35-0.  People are asking, "Hey, P-To- The Power of 2...No TJ talk this season?" I've been trying to keep my smack down this season as in the previous 3 years, I've had to eat humble pie from my critics, especially the rubbish from Center Township. Here is something you can think about. Thomas Jefferson has gone back to what won them 4 WPIAL championships in the mid 2000's. Running the football! RB Austin Kemp has 1,462 yards rushing this season, a WPIAL best and his 32 touchdowns are more than thee entire Franklin Regional team.....HA! Spare me the laughter.....Thomas Jefferson over Franklin Regional

CLASS 'AAAA'

Pine Richland (7-0) vs Central Catholic (7-0) Friday night in the Northern Eight battle of the season. A game that will place the Quad A top defense against the top offense. The Rams of Pine Richland are averaging just over 46 points per game led by QB Ben DiNucci. Ben has tossed for 1,915 yards and 23 touchdowns. The Vikings of Central Catholic come into this showdown after recording their 4th shutout of the season, 45-0 over Seneca Valley.  Central's defense has only allowed a combine total of 24 points against all season! They could stop the Steelers! But then again, who can't? Central Catholic over Pine Richland

CLASS 'AA'

New Brighton (5-2) vs Beaver Falls (6-1) in the Battle for the Brown Jug. It's not full of dirty river water either. It's full of cognac and weed and probably some warrants. This game will take place at Geneva College. Parking is awful. Beaver Falls has crawled under the radar since that embarrassment vs Beaver on September 12. New Brighton QB Payton Fath rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for 1 in last week's loss to Washington 56-21. Beatdown! Beaver Falls has outscored its opponents by an average of 36 to 22. Sophomore QB Dalton Cleckly threw for 168 yards and 1 touchdown last week in the Tigers victory over Summit Academy. As my friend Mike would say "Caca". Meanwhile, Aliquippa continues to sit back and laugh at this one. Oh, by the way, let's not have another repeat of 2012 fight between the two schools, there is no need for another stabbing. It's a toss up, but I'll go with my brain here......New Brighton over Beaver Falls

CLASS 'AA'

South Fayette (7-0) vs Seton-LaSalle (7-0) in My Game Of The Week. The 'AA' game of the regular season is finally upon us. The Century Conference crown is on the line from Chartiers Valley High. Seton-LaSalle QB Tyler Perone has thrown for 1,344 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. The defense has averaged less than 10 points per game. And then South Fayette enters. QB Brett Brumbaugh, who broke the WPIAL passing record this season has thrown for 1,537 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has completed 86 of 133 passes and only has 3 interceptions. WR Nick Ponikvar TE Logan Sharp are the targets of choice for Brumbaugh as they have more than 20 catches for the season and both have over 400 yards receiving. South Fayette also runs the ball quite well, TB Hunter Hays has 77 carries for 637 yards and has 15 touchdowns. Seton La-Salle has falling victim to the juggernaut that has been South Fayette. They've lost 3 straight to the Lions. Much the same this season. South Fayette over Seton-LaSalle

As for the others.....

Woodland Hills over Mt. Lebanon
North Allegheny over Latrobe
Ambridge over Blackhawk
West Allegheny over Moon
Aliquippa over Mt. Pleasant

Hampton over Greensburg Salem
