W.P.I.A.L. High School Football Predictions: Week 1

Each week from the start of the season until the P.I.A.A. State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation will bring you uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”. He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action in W.P.I.A.L. High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Or is it she...? Either way, we'll never tell!

Game day crews are placing on the final touches, coach’s are going over final plans and diagrams and players are restless anticipating week 1 of the 2015 campaign….so here we are. How fast does 8 months go? That fast….

PToThePowerOf2 sends prayers and thoughts to Aliquippa standout Mantae Bronaugh who is battling through cancer…..this young man will miss the 2015 season on the field. Simply not fair.  We stand with you Mantae!

We began the literature just a few days ago with PToThePowerOf2’s Preseason Favorite’s and Contender’s…..Tonight, we give you a look-in to what is on the horizon tomorrow evening….for the new folks joining in this season, PToThePowerOf2 will select 10 games each Friday during the regular season….let’s get to work….

Penn Hills Indians vs Upper St. Clair Panthers

Tomorrow at 7:30pm. A huge game in the Quad A as Penn Hills returns QB Billy Kisner, who has committed to Toledo, last season rushed for 1,000 yards and had almost 500 yards passing. The Indians will continue to lean heavily on the run game. TB Henton Mathis and Amil Frazier will tote the rock. Upper St. Clair on the other hand had an awful campaign in 2014 ending at 4-6, not a normal Jim Render type of season. USC will feature Pitt recruit at Tackle in Gabe Huoy. Last season Penn Hills coasted 31-13.  Not this year…..Upper St Clair over Penn Hills

Thomas Jefferson Jaguars vs Ringgold Rams

Friday, 7:30pm from Joe Montana Stadium.  A Big Ten Conference showdown to start off the season! Why not?  Ringgold returns all-conference TB’s in Chacar Berry and Brenden Small.  Chacar rushed for 1,392 yards and Small rushed for 722.  The Rams also return LB Conner Garry and Jordan Briscoe.  Thomas Jefferson, well, is Thomas Jefferson.  Cherpak’s chokers blew it again in the WPIAL semifinals to anther parkway foe in West Allegheny .  The Jaguars return LB Braden Pahanish, DB Ryan Scanlon and OT Dylan Vissari.  The Jaguars have won 9 straight conference championships and have gone unbeaten in conference play 8 of the past 9 season. Thomas Jefferson have also won 67 of their past 68 conference games going back to 2005. The Jaguars have defeated the Rams 8 straight times since 2004….nothing changes….Thomas Jefferson over Ringgold

Indiana Indians vs Mars Fight’n Planets

Friday at 7pm from space…..or maybe just Cranberry! A Greater Allegheny Conference week 1 test.  Indiana will feature WR Dylan Stapleton who had 32 receptions last season and QB Jacob Zilinskas who threw for 1,600 yards and had 650 rushing yards with 37 touchdowns. Mars will counter with TB Isaiah Johnson who rushed for over 500 yards last season. TE John Castello caught 16 passes last season for roughly 300 yards. Last season Indiana squeaked by 29-26. A great game, a toss up….Indians on the Planet Mars makes zero sense…..Mars over Indiana

Montour Spartans vs Central Valley Warriors

Tomorrow at 7pm from the most horrific design of a complex since Kemper Arena in 1974….may we suggest you take a ½ day from the office and depart early enough to sit in a queue from Broadhead Ave to 376….and let’s not forget the freeloading drunks on the hill who year after year pilfer funding from their own school district and athletes….rumor has it they hired a live band for a pregame party….glad saving up for 3 seasons was enough to save up for a band….then drink your faces in so that they can yell through the chain link fence at visiting fans…that’s okay….there wasn’t much noise from this obnoxious fan base after being destroyed and embarrassed by Archbishop Wood in front of the commonwealth, 33-14 in December. Meanwhile, there is a huge Parkway Conference Matchup here.  The Warriors graduated standout Jordan Whitehead and John George. Head Coach Lyons will look to QB Chris Callahan who tossed for 1,300 yards last season and TB Kyle Vreen who rushed for 300 yards last season.  Montour meanwhile will feature TE Trent Vietmeier who is a large target that stands in at 6’3, 210lbs.  Coach Lou Cerro will have to replace QB Randall Labrie after a torn ACL in the preseason. The Spartans turn to Tyler Carswell to QB and rest knowing that TB David Haseleu who had almost 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns a season ago.  A very stout and experienced offensive front will lead the way for Lou Cerro’s Spartans.…..Montour over Central Valley

As for the others….

Mt. Pleasant over McGuffey
North Hills over Fox Chapel
Central Catholic over Bethel Park
Moon over Blackhawk
West Allegheny over New Castle
Beaver Falls over Freedom

See yous next week….enjoy the holiday weekend and enjoy opening weekend!
