WPIAL High School Football Predictions: Week 6

Each week from the start of the WPIAL season through the PIAA State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation brings you the best, uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”.

He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action of WPIAL High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Love him , or hate him, he simply tells it like it is... Or is it she? Either way, we'll never tell! (Unless you have a crisp $100 bill in hand)

By P To The Power of 2

As we settle in on this Thursday evening, a loaded sports evening is underway. The NLDS begins tonight with game one in both Los Angeles and Atlanta, college football from North Carolina between Temple and East Carolina, the NFL between the Rams and the Seahawks and the NHL is back in action as well. Hope your remote is charged! A busy evening indeed.

But, what are we here for? All of the above? Not so fast! It's Week Six of the high school football season in the WPIAL/PIAA.

In Week 5, we finished with a record of 11 victories and 4 defeats (73%). This places our season total to 57 victories and 13 defeats (81.42%)

This week features a few marquee games, we'll get to those now.

Class AA

New Brighton Lions (5-1) vs Freedom Bulldogs (6-0) - Friday, 7 pm

The Lions of New Brighton are showing signs of being a potential playoff contender. Last week, New Brighton took care of business and defeated Neshannock, 31-18. Lions star WR Jacob Francona is the heart & soul of the squad. He has 567 yards this season with nine touchdowns. Lions QB Jackson Hall has eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark passing thru six weeks.

Freedom squeaked past Valley last week, 14-10. The Bulldogs still remain undefeated even though they are without RB Max Ujhazy due to a collarbone injury. They turn to Josh Pail and Brett Boyd to carry the work load. Between them, they have roughly 675 yards and nine touchdowns.

We'll take the upset special, undefeated no more.

Class AAAA

Knoch Knights (5-1) vs South Fayette Lions (5-1) - Friday, 7 pm

A conference match-up with playoff seeding on the line in the "Northwest Eight" tomorrow evening.

Knoch enters by losing in overtime last week to Montour, 14-7. Knoch is a very quiet team at 5-1.

South Fayette made easy work of Blackhawk, 34-14. The South Fayette air attack continues to make defensive coordinators look foolish week after week. QB Naman Alemada has thrown for 18 touchdowns and 1,520 yards. Three Lion WR's have a combined total of 1,000 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.

Knoch barely beat Blackhawk, so that shows us that they won't beat South Fayette

Non-Conference

Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (6-0) vs Central Valley Warriors (6-0) - Friday, 7 pm

The press has blown this one completely out of proportion in our opinion. They must all be covering this game tomorrow hoping to hit the 50/50.

Thomas Jefferson continues to go about their normal regular season business, and that business is handing out ass whoopings as WPIAL Insider describes it. The Jaguars have outscored their opponents to the tune of  299-30. Last week, TJ crushed Connellsville, 61-7. Jaguars QB Shane Stump and WR Dan Deabner are one of the deadliest combos in the state. They have linked up for 24 touchdowns thru 6 weeks. Deabner also has 5 interceptions and one of them was a pick-6.

Central Valley has cruised thru their first six games, and defeated Waynesburg last week 42-6, but struggled to defeat a Beaver Falls team that gave the Warriors five extra possessions to do so. Central Valley RB Jaylen Guy has rushed for 605 yards and has seven touchdowns. QB Ameer Dudley will need a perfect game to come within an upset bid.

The all-time record between the two schools is 2-2. Last year, TJ won with ease, defeating Central Valley 45-6.

Two different teams, same result. An ass whooping on deck. Don't believe the hype you are reading in the papers. This isn't even close.
