WPIAL High School Football Predictions: Week 8

Each week from the start of the WPIAL season through the PIAA State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation brings you the best, uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”.

He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action of WPIAL High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Love him, or hate him, he simply tells it like it is... Or is it she? Either way, we'll never tell! (Unless you have a crisp $100 bill in hand)

By P To The Power of 2

A sports equinox tonight as the NFL, NHL, NBA & MLB are all in action. A busy evening indeed, but, as the rest of the commonwealth turns their attention to those contests, PToThePowerOf2 is setting up previews and our selections for week 8 of the WPIAL season.

Last week, We posted a record of 9-1. A ‘Tip Of The Cap’ to Mr. Moye and his Golden Beavers for upsetting New Brighton last Saturday and spoiling our potential undefeated week. With that, our season record stands in at 72 victories and 18 defeats (80%)

We welcome you to week 8 – Playoffs are on the horizon, seeding implications and rivalry contests are on the slate….. As always, let’s get to work!

Class AA:

Western Beaver (6-2) vs Neshannock (6-2)
Last week, Western Beaver upset New Brighton, 21-13. Neshannock dismantled Freedom, 49-21.

Western Beaver will look to Cam Irvine who has 13 touchdowns and 578 yards rushing on the season. Western Beaver clinched a playoff berth last week.  Seems as if Mr. Moye has the Golden Beavers on the right track!

Neshannock will feature RB Braden Gennock who has rushed for just over 1,000 yards and has 17 touchdowns to his credit.
Last season when these two played, the Golden Beavers defeated the Lancers by one point, 20-19.

Neshannock lost to New Brighton, Western Beaver defeated New Brighton…..hmmmm.

Class AAAAA:

Peters Township (7-1) vs Bethel Park (5-2)

Last week, Bethel Park was defeated by Baldwin, 31-28. Who the hell saw that one?

Meanwhile, Peters Township defeated Chartiers Valley, 43-14.

The Black Hawks of Bethel Park will use a dual approach at RB with Jehvonn Lewis and Sean McGowan. A combined effort has resulted in 1,048 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns.

The Indians of Peters Township will counter with QB Logan Pfeuffer who has tossed for 18 touchdowns and just shy of 1,400 yards. RB Ryan Magiske has rushed 15 touchdowns on the season and is close to the 1,000 yard marker.
Same result as last year, a win for the Indians.

Non-Conference

Beaver Falls (6-2) vs Blackhawk (5-3)

The old rivalry on the north end of Beaver County shifts to Chippewa Township on Friday night.

The all-time record in this heated rivalry is certainly lopsided as the Cougars from Blackhawk hold a commanding edge of 18-5-1, the only tie during the 1981 season.

Last week, Beaver Falls defeated Waynesburg Central 34-14. Blackhawk defeated Indiana 42-0.
Blackhawk will lean on the do-it-all back in Marques Watson-Trent who has rushed for 833 yards on the season and has 12 touchdowns to his credit.

Beaver Falls is led by Josh Hough. He has rushed for 778 yards and has eight touchdowns.  The Tigers defense has only given up 421 yards rushing thru
eight weeks. The only two teams to test the Tigers defense are the two programs that defeated them, Aliquippa and Central Valley.

Both of these teams were defeated by Central Valley. Both programs turned the ball over numerous times. Our key for this contest, whoever can own time of possession and not turn the ball over.

A toss up! Can Blackhawk counter Beaver Falls’ speed and size? Or will the Tigers be out-coached?

As for the others…..

Enjoy the lights.......
