WPIAL High School Football Predictions: Week 7

Each week from the start of the WPIAL season through the PIAA State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation brings you the best, uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”.

He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action of WPIAL High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Love him, or hate him, he simply tells it like it is... Or is it she? Either way, we'll never tell! (Unless you have a crisp $100 bill in hand)

By P To The Power of 2

Another Thursday night as we settle in on-the-road this week. Our travels, however, take us away from the commonwealth, but, we will not let our followers go a Friday without our selections.

Last week, well, we had an awful performance, almost as bad as Clayton Kershaw in the 8th inning last night, posting a record of 6 victories and 4 defeats. (60%) one of the lowest week-of averages of all time! This places our 2019 season total to 63 victories and 17 defeats, (78.75%)

Class 6A

Pine Richland (6-1) vs Mt Lebanon (5-2)

Last week, Pine Richland defeated Canon McMillan, 63-8. Mt Lebanon defeated Upper St Clair, 28-14.

The Rams of Pine Richland will be led by QB Cole Spencer who has thrown for 1,455 yards and has 18 touchdowns.

Bob Palko has Mt Lebanon at a uprising 5-2 start. Mt Lebanon has not defeated Pine Richland since 2011. That score was 34-7. QB Joey Daniels has over 1,000 yards passing and 13 touchdowns.

Extend that streak another year.

Class 3A

South Park (3-3) vs Aliquippa (7-0)

Last week, Aliquippa crushed Yough, 67-0. South Park defeated Hopewell, 41-23.

South Park will use a dual-RB approach with Nate May and Rudy Mihoces. Last week, the two RB's combined for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Aliquippa, well, pitched another shutout, extending their winning streak to 12 games. That streak is the longest in the WPIAL.

South Park will be lucky to see inside the redzone. Ugly and Ugly fast.

Class 4A

West Mifflin (4-3) vs Belle Vernon Leopards (5-1)

Last week, Belle Vernon defeated Trinity, 48-7. West Mifflin somehow lost to Greensburg Salem, 13-10.

Belle Vernon has rolled thru their schedule this season besides the one defeat to Thomas Jefferson. QB Jared Hartman has 820 yards passing and 10 touchdowns.

West Mifflin will use dual-threat QB Jacob Davis. Davis has rushed for 698 yards, passed for 703 yards and has 6 touchdowns.

West Mifflin lost to Greensburg Salem......In all seriousness.....

Non-Conference

Gateway (6-1) vs Massillon (Ohio) (6-0)

Gateway makes the trip west to visit Paul Brown Stadium on Friday night.

Last week, Massillon baptized Austintown-Fitch, 55-7. Gateway defeated Franklin Regional, 31-0.

Western PA football history may not seem relevant to most people some two hours away across the state line. Except that, this week, it’s amazingly relevant for both Gateway and Massillon!

On Sept. 20, Penn-Trafford traveled to Massillon, with the Tigers getting the best of the Warriors 42-21. That is Penn-Trafford’s only loss on its 6-1 record. In some ways, the Penn-Trafford game is an outlier for both teams. For Gateway, it’s the only loss in a season full of 26-plus-point wins.

What could happen here? An upset? Could it? Could it?

Massillon over Gateway

As for the others.....
