W.P.I.A.L. High School Football Predictions: Week 5

Each week from the start of the season until the P.I.A.A. State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation will bring you uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”. He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action in W.P.I.A.L. High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Or is it she...? Either way, we'll never tell!

By P-to-The-Power of 2

Last week we touched on some history of regularity, in the case of the ignorance that continues with the students of Hopewell….not 1 week, not 1, their rival school district just had to trump them….back we go to good ol’ Central Valley….where the dipsomaniacs fall down the hill on Friday night, where forklifts rollover between schools, where former football players bereave from elderly people, where an awful occurrence happened last fall (not going to mention that one) and now the icing on the cake….phoning in a bomb threat on the elementary open house…..there are no words for this, but congrats, you never let us down Central Valley…..stay classy….oh and don’t forget, West Allegheny is waiting in Imperial to excoriate on October 30th…..

Week 5, separation week sais PToThePowerOf2….where the playoff bound teams begin to separate themselves from the teams looking to basketball season…..last week, we posted a record of 7 victories and only 3 defeats….lowering the season percentage to 77%.....not on par you may say for PToThePowerOf2, but another week presents another opportunity for us to get back on track…..Let’s get to work…..

Class AAAA

Upper St Clair Panthers (2-2) vs Woodland Hills Wolverines (4-0) from the Wolverina at 7:30pm

Upper St Clair has been struggling the past 2 weeks, suffering losses at the hands of Bethel Park, 30-7 and last week to North Allegheny, 31-6.  Jim Renders Panthers have been outscored by the tune of 75 to 64 so far this season. The Panthers will ride the legs of TB Thomas Vissman who has 440 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns.  Meanwhile Woodland Hills is on a mission. Last week the Wolverines blasted Baldwin, 42-7.  Penn State commit Miles Sanders and Jo-El Shaw have over 1,000 yards combined and 15 touchdowns through the 4 weeks.  Woodland Hills is outscoring the opposition by almost 30 points this season.  Last year Woodland Hills crushed USC, 48-0. PToThePowerOf2 believes that another mercy rule will be kicked into effect in the early stages of the 3rd quarter Friday night…..Woodland Hills over Upper St. Clair

Class AAA

Belle Vernon Leapords (4-0) vs West Mifflin Titans (3-1) from Waste Management on the hill near Kennywood at 7:30pm

Another Big Ten division showdown on the slate Friday night….seems to PToThePowerOf2 that the balance of power might be shifting in class ‘AAA’….parkway only has 1 good team….West Allegheny.  Meanwhile Belle Vernon is is off to its best start in years. Last week the Leopards embarrassed Yough, 66-7.  Leopards QB Mike Fine will lead the pack that is scoring, on average, 39 points per game.  West Mifflin enters by falling to conference foe Ringgold, 14-7.  West Mifflin will lean on TB Russell Tyree who has almost 600 yards rushing and has 9 touchdowns.  The deal breaker in this one is who makes the big mistake late…last season the Titans escaped, 35-28. This year, they find a way to make the race for the crown of the Big Ten even more interesting…..West Mifflin over Belle Vernon

Class AAA

Montour Spartans (3-1) vs West Allegheny (4-0) from Imperial Hill at 7pm

Montour escaped the jaws of defeat last week by somehow escaping Hopeless-Hopewell, 17-15.  Montour TB David Haseleu has been injured for the past 2 weeks, hampering the Spartans offense to nearly nothing.  West Allegheny meanwhile cruised to another easy victory by defeating Ambridge, on the road, 42-0.  Bob Palko’s Indians are embarrassing the completion by outscoring the first 4 opponents to the score of 194-28. Only 1 time have the Indians allowed more than a touchdown in a game thus far.  Indians TB Terence Stephens has 9 touchdowns this season.  No Haseleu or with Haseleu….no contest….you can head for cocktails by halftime….West Allegheny over Montour

Class AA

Washington Little Prexies (4-0) vs Mount Pleasant Vikings (4-0) from Mt Pleasant High at 7:00pm

Interstate is looking for a half-way leader….you’ll find it here….First place is on the table….Mt. Pleasant destroyed Waynesburg last week, 52-6 and Washington crushed Brownsville, 42-6.  The Vikings will look to QB Johnny Yestery who has tossed the rock for 449 yards and look to TB Chris Wagner who has seven touchdowns on 528 yards rushing.  Washington’s’ Kurt Adkins had 2 touchdowns in last week’s victory.  The Prexies have won 13 straight conference contests and have not been defeated in-conference since 2013, that to none other than Mt. Pleasant, 47-22.   A good one to take in if you don’t mind sitting in the rain & drizzle. Washington continues to set the bar….Washington over Mt. Pleasant

As for the others…..

Hopewell over Blackhawk
Thomas Jefferson over Trinity
Pine-Richland over North Hills
Aliquippa over New Brighton
Beaver Falls over Laurel
McKeesport over Hempfield

See yous next week….enjoy the lights…..
