Each week from the start of the season until the P.I.A.A. State Finals, Pittsburgh SportsNation will bring you uncensored, no holds barred predictions by our local high school football guru who goes by the moniker “P To The Power of 2”. He is one of our underground writers who covers the hard hitting action in W.P.I.A.L. High School Football in Western Pennsylvania. Or is it she...? Either way, we'll never tell!

The final show, of the regular season that is, here we now stand, week 9 in the WPIAL season….Playoffs loom on the horizon and games Friday night will show some programs the door and others, a glimmer of hope, a chance to dance….
 
Last week, PToThePowerOf2 posted another 9-1 record, raising the season total to 67 victories and only 13 defeats, a winning tradition that continues, week after week, 83.7%.....some folks, we know who they are, have said that PToThePowerOf2 has lost a step or two along the way, guess that you are too busy drinking that cheap low end regional beer, listening to Molly Hatchet records somewhere in Center Township….but enough of those sob sisters…..we have an unbelievable set of games to get too….an extra look inside this week….as always, let’s get to work!
 
CLASS ‘AAAA’
 
Mt Lebanon Blue Devils (7-1) vs Upper St. Clair Panthers (5-3)…Friday, 7:30pm from Pantherville in Upper St Clair
 
The Blue Devils of Mt Lebanon enter by having their unbeaten record tarnished by losing to Woodland Hills last week, by the final of 21-17. Mt. Lebanon will  look to QB Eddie Jenkins who has tossed the rock for 1,333 yards and has 19 touchdowns for the season. The Devils offense is averaging 34 points per game.  Upper St Clair has won it’s past 3 games including a victory last Friday over Montour, 34-21.  Render’s Panthers are led by TB Thomas Vissman who has 1,210 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns on the season. Playoff position and bragging rights in this Quad Central contest…closer than most of our fellow journalists believe….a turnover late decides it…..
 
Mt Lebanon over Upper St Clair

 
Woodland Hills Wolverines (8-0) vs Penn Hills Indians (3-5)…Friday, 7:30pm from Penn Hills
 
Penn Hills senior night Friday welcomes the #1 ranked team in the state for class AAAA, the Wolverines from Woody High.  The Wolverines took down Mt. Lebanon last week, 21-17.  Woodland Hills will continue to be led by the talented Penn State commit TB Miles Sanders who only needs 48 yards to eclipse the 4,000 yard mark for his career. Also TB Jo-El Shaw will carry the rock for the Wolverines. Penn Hills season has been dismal at best…QB Cameron Tarrant has a combination of 1,100 yards…The Indians were crushed last weekend by Seneca Valley, 23-0. The Indians may not get on the board again this season….

CLASS ‘AAA’
 
Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (6-2) vs West Mifflin Titans (6-2)…Friday, 7:30pm from Waste Management Hill in West Mifflin
 
The Big Ten end of year showdown that is usually for 1st place, but not this year….third & fourth place are on the line this season…. West Mifflin enters week 9 by squeaking past Trinity, 29-27. This giving the Titans 3 straight victories since the loss at Belle Vernon. West Mifflin will look to QB Karlyn Garner who has 1,082 yards of total offense. Titan combinations of Maryce Johnson, Russell Tyree and Howard Reid have over 2,000 yards rushing and have 24 touchdowns. The Titan offense is averaging 28 points per game. Bill Cherpaks TJ Jags enter by defeating Yough, 49-20. The Jags are led by the QB combo of Quinton Hill and Braden Pahanish. These two young men have combined for 1,275 yards and 24 touchdowns. Thomas Jefferson stumbled out of the gates by losing to Ringgold in week 1 and then Belle Vernon in week 2, but since have ripped off 6 straight wins, outscoring the opposition by the score of 264-41. The Jaguars have won 8 out the past 9 meetings between the schools. The strangle hold on the conference for the Jags is over but, it seems as if everyone has forgot about ‘em….not PToThePowerOf2….shhh, a jaguar is lurking in the high grass….

Central Valley Warriors (7-1) vs West Allegheny Indians (7-1)…Friday, 7:00pm from the ever beautiful campus in Imperial
 
The Parkway conference title is on the table. Central Valley enters by crushing Hopewell, 41-7. The Warrior defense has recorded 15 sacks led by DE Vinnie Verrico. QB Chris Callaghan has 1,473 yards and 7 touchdowns and has also thrown 7 interceptions. Warrior TB Kyle Vreen has 829 yards rushing and has 10 touchdowns. Sources have given PToThePowerOf2 a ‘code of ethics’ or ‘code of conduct’ that some cavalier from their district wrote about moral conduct…wow…really? We are speaking about the district that has been in more disorder with players and coaches the previous 3 seasons than most schools in Western Pennsylvania…Central Valley has turned into the Global Gym Purple Cobra’s….Dwight Goodman and the oppressive front and the guttersnipes from the hill ….meanwhile West Allegheny enters by crushing Moon, 42-7. Bob Palko’s Indians  have outscored the competition this year by the total of 338-85. Indians TB Terrence Stephens has 1,115 yards rushing this season with 16 touchdowns all on 104 carries….a staggering average of 140 yards per game. Also, TB Whitney White Jr has 546 yards rushing and 9 touchdowns. West Allegheny’s Defense has been stout to say the least…only allowing just over 10 points per game. MLB Tom Burke has 73 tackles on the season. The Indians have 11 sacks. West Allegheny has not lost at home since October 21stof 2011….20 games in a row on home turf….nothing changes….

Aliquippa Quips (8-0) vs Beaver Falls Tigers (8-0)…Friday, 7:00pm from Reeves Field on campus of Geneva College
 
The MAC Conference is on the line…Two worlds collide, rival nations, a primitive clash, venting years of frustrations….there is so much at stake….a monumental matchup of biblical proportions will go down Friday. CBS Sports has ranked this game a Top 10 contest in the nation. The Tigers are led by a massive and very young offense and defense front led by junior TE Donovan Jeter at 6’5, 270lbs. Sophomore QB’s Adam Brady has 567 yards passing and 8 touchdowns and Malik Sheperd has 527 yards passing with 5 touchdowns. Sheperd has also rushed for 684 yards and 15 touchdowns. WR Derrell Carter leads the Tigers with 22 catches for 495 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Tigers have outscored to opposition 342-70. Ranked number 2 in the state are the Tigers….Here come the Aliquippa Quips, 8-0, defeating Mt. Pleasant last week 50-38. Led by Pitt Panter commit TB Kaezon Pugh at 6’2, 215lbs has rushed 94 times for 1,072 yards and scored 17 touchdowns on the season. QB Sheldon Jeter has thrown for 683 yards and 9 touchdowns. WR Jassir Jordan has 369 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. The trenches is where this contest will be won….a huge game, a capacity crowd is anticipated, ROOT sports to televise the contest live ….one for the record books potentially….last year Aliquippa rocked Beaver Falls to the tune of 56-5….the Quips have not lost a conference game since 2009, to the hands of the Tigers, 21-14….since that day, The Quips have rolled off 59 consecutive conference victories…Quips coach Mike Zmijanac stated “ I can’t speak for Beaver Falls, but my goal (for this season) is to win a championship, not to beat Beaver Falls”….Quips are the King in the MAC until someone proves PToThePowerOf2 wrong….
